Well I’ve abbreviated the name.  It’s actually the Petite Press Portable Mini Iron.  NOT to be confused with the Clover Product.  This one is  completely different. It has a heavier gauge cord,  there is a digital temperature control.  The part I like the best is the auto shut off after 1 hour of use.   I think this is going to be a hot item this Christmas along with the Bias maker and rotary machine.

I’m hoping to get back to my experiment of what else you can do with a stencil.  I’ tried using it as a pattern to discharge colour on Sunday.  The idea is great.  The way I did it…. needs tweaking. I have lots of fabrics where there is just too much of one colour.  They are perfect pieces to experiment with.

This has to be THE most popular item right now.  We just can’t keep them in stock.  I’m expecting more late next week and they are already sold.

Every time I  alot one for myself I end up selling it before I even get to open it.

Some of the extra tips are available.  I’m only interested in making the bias to finish the 3 Quilts that are waiting to be bound.  Lynne quilted these for me.  As usual they are awesome.
Progress re the larger work space…..  We actually measured it yesterday and started planing the placement.
Halloween…. What a waste.  We had maybe 30 children at the most.  I’m sure we had nearly 100 last year, which is what we planned for.  Well my sweet tooth won’t be deprived for a while.

Today I’m in a drawing and painting mode. I’ve been working in my sketch book a bit.

Opps! I forgot to post the picture.  That is just typical around here.  I’m always doing too many things at once.  This afternoon I’ll be adding the Cedar Canyon Christmas stencils to the web site.  I found  a few left over from the show. Also I’ll be adding the Christmas pattern to the site.

The same email that pointed out the missing photo also asked why my blogs are a “bit erratic”.  Well apart from being busy in the office family, and actually trying to do or read what I talk about, I find I flip flop between my hand written journal and the blog.  I’ve been tired since the Fall Creativ Festival, so I’ve been working with my written journal at night.

Any how,  I’m contemplating my next topic.  How many things can you do with one of those quilting stencils?  I mean other than just as an outline for machine quilting.  I’m up to 6.  Maybe I’ll get started on a few ideas this weekend!

I finally got around to reading my Burda magazine the other day.  It’s been following me around ever since.  Wow!  I know it’s the end of October .  There should be some at Chapters.  It’s just one of those issues where nearly every article is written for me.
The Plus size clothes are just what I need right now.  There are a few children’s outfits that are going to be perfect for the youngest niece and nephew.  There are normal size patterns,  and mens too. I like the shirt for John.  There is a cool idea about lamps for Halloween tomorrow.   AND…. Halloween Pom Pom earings made with the Clover Pom Pom Makers Way too COOL!!!!  There’s more but you won’t need to buy the magazine if I tell you.
I’ve never been bothered about tracing the patterns off the paper.  You have to do that with most patterns now a days.  The patterns in the magazine don’t have seam allowances. This is no biggie, when you use the niche patterns you usually end up adding the proper seam allowance that they’ve removed to be different.
I’ve used Burda forever.  I was trained in England by a German patternmaker.  They seem to have a better handle on fit and proportion in my opinion. I think the clincher was when K needed formal clothing for the prom or weddings we always found a pattern there.
SO now I really need to move to that larger workroom.  I’m trying to get it on the calendar for next weekend.  Wish me luck.

I have an unfair advantage.  I get to test  many, many new items all the time.  I took this Portable Gooseneck  Clip On Lamp to a guild class last Saturday  for the Ultimate Test.  I’ve taken classes in this room before and know if you don’t get a seat on the window side of the room  you can end up in someones shadow. I clipped this lamp to the back of my extension table so the light was coming from the right hand side to the needle.  I was impressed with the result.  My eyes didn’t fatigue.  My brain sure did though.  Even better it’s small, so it fit in my bag (Suitcase) and it didn’t look like I was bringing my entire sewing room.  (Pretty close though).  The light is battery operated so I wasn’t hogging prime electrical plugs, but It will work with an adaptor.  There are levelers on the bottom of the clamp too so you can use them to balance the light on a table of that works better. Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Fall Creativ Festival in Toronto.  As always the show was a huge success.  We enjoyed catching up on your news.

What have I done this week?  Well apart from everything I mentioned in my last entry,  I’ve also started the Paintstiks® Butterfly pattern.  These pieces have set for a week, been pressed and interfaced.  They are ready for me to add some more embellishment at the sewing machine.

Finally got some water soluble wax crayons this week.  Here is the start of the cover for my next sketchbook.  The base “Fabric” is a dryer sheet with a Gesso™ base.  There’s some beading.  It was a nice quick project to make me feel like I’d accomplished something.

I’ll post a picture of the Holiday Lights quilt again when I’ve finished all the 1/2 square triangles and attached them.  One thing about that quilt,  I decided to add a narrow border around the Trees before adding the 1/2 square triangles.  Because I’ve used different backgrounds, some fabrics had a bit more give than others. When I was sewing the rows together, I really had to pay attention to keep the top as square as possible.   I thought I’d just stabilize the outer edge of the trees just to add a bit of control and hopefully, eliminate some frustration later on.

I hope everyone is well and as busy as we’ve been.  Product is arriving for the fall show and we’ve been finalizing the floor plan.
This year I will have a proper cutting area with the interfacings, Lutradur by the yard, elastics and more.   I’m not presenting a demo or teaching, but when I am there I’ll have a basket of new items we can go through.
I’m excited to have the new packages of Dylon® on the way.  They include the fixative.
These will be on the web site as soon as the inventory arrives.  Most of the new items I’ve added recently will also be at the show.   New Cedar Canyon Christmas product will be on the booth.  It’s selling out before it arrives so if your interested you  should probably give me a call.

It is a busy time of year.  I grateful the weather is a bit cooler.  It makes it easier for me to get some things done.  Like a lot of you, we are getting our DD ready for Uni.  She moves in on Saturday.

We’ve received more Bias  Tape Making machines, but they won’t last long.

Also here are the Roxannes Pencils. I love them.  They are chalk, and water soluble.  I use them for both quilting and fashion sewing.  We are fully restocked on Glue Baste It too.

The Holiday Lights reforestation project is progressing very slowly.  I’ve finished all the trees and arranged the rows.  I’m hoping (every the optimist) to get back to that after DD  is settled.

I can’t believe the week has gone again. The upside is I enjoy speaking with everyone on the phone. Consequently the “Re forestation project” (Holiday Lights Pattern Sample) took a back seat this week, but I will get back to it.

The Gypsy Sit Upon arrived yesterday. I’m trying mine out now. I spend hours at the computer working on a catalogue or the web site. Over the years I’ve found I need to alter my sitting position throughout the day. Usually by changing chairs or inserts. The Gypsy Sit Upon is a little like sitting on those balls at exercise class. I needed to lower my seat position. BUT……. once I got into what I was doing yesterday evening, I forgot I was sitting on it. I’m usually seated for at least an hour at a time. It was easier for me to get up. So far I don’t have the mid back pain that I usually get and it’s really hard to cross your legs while you sit on this so you won’t twist your back even more. I’ve put a towel on top of mine. The pointy things stick in.
As long as you realize The Gypsy Sit Upon is NOT going to cure existing issues. It MAY help by not aggravating them. I know I’ll be using this for the next machine quilting marathon.
